the impromptu dance

“Hmm…” the man who was acting the part of Nebuchadnezzar’s servant  paced the floor, “it seems that I know some excellent dancers.” He paused and braced his head in one hand. “Yes, yes. Paul Mast.”

The congregation roared with laughter.

Paul’s face turned a bit red.

“Amos Metzler.”

My husband jerked beside me. His face showed shock.

The man continued listing names and all the little kids were watching with anticipation.

I leaned over, “Honey, you’re suppose to go dance.”

He rolled his eyes at me.

I kicked him off the bench.

A whole line of grown men. Farmers. A police officer. Carpenters.

They danced and we laughed. The kids clapped in delight. The little pixie on my lap squealed, “Uncle Ice Cream is dancing!”

Sometimes God asks us to walk into fiery furnaces for our faith. Other times He may ask us to dance in front of a crowd of people.

It was a riot. It was beautiful. Because the men who climbed that stage for an impromptu dance, are men who are learning to be bold for the cause of Christ. Even if that boldness means being a bit embarrassed to help illustrate a Bible story for a crowd of over two hundred kids.

I want to be like that. I want to be like them. And I’m proud to know each and every one of those men.

  1. I love it! I wish I could have seen it! “Sometimes God asks us to walk into fiery furnaces for our faith. Other times He may ask us to dance in front of a crowd of people.” and this line- Yes- oh that we are free to just go when he says “Go”. Visiting from Lisa-Jo’s. Nice to meet you today, Natasha!
