things i love about my husband {6} strength

28 days of intentionally honoring my spouse

His hands are rough. Callused and scratchy.

When the weather causes cracks, he uses superglue to meld the skin back together. He can grip ice cold wrenches and with just the strength of his arm, break rusted together bolts.

We were dating the first time I saw him lift the front end of a tractor. I thought maybe it was lighter than it looked. It wasn’t.

It was not a gushing girl ploy when I said, in awe, “I can’t believe how strong you are.” I was just being honest. But he shrugged, “My dad was stronger than I am and his dad was stronger yet.”

It’s not strength built by lifting weights and working out. It is built by hours of hard labor.

I love his strength.

I love that he always treats me with gentleness.

I love that anytime I need his strength, he gladly and freely gives it.

I love that his rough and callused hands are mine to hold. His muscled arms are mine to snuggle under.
I love that when he is near, I feel safe and protected and cared for.

The Challenge:

There are many types of strength. How does your husband demonstrate his to you?

  1. This was one of the sweetest of all! God knew what he was doing when He made the differences between men and women, huh? 😉 My hubby is well known around the area for his intimidating appearance. He’s built like a tank. (about a foot wider than me, and a foot and a half taller than me!) His hands are so calloused he has to file them down with a hand-grater. I’ll have have to mention the super glue fix to him. He has that problem, too.
It was funny, because when I first published my book. My grandma said that I should use a pen name. She said that if someone didn’t like what I had written, they might come after me.
I told her, “Grandma… you don’t understand… My hubby is the scariest thing in that jungle!” 😀
Like you said Amos though, the best part is that all that is tempered with gentleness. He bends down to hug me when I need it, and he carefully pushes my siblings on their big swing outside. It reminds me of the way God cares for us. Job 38-39 talks about how amazing God is. God talks about how He makes the sun rise and set, how He stores up the rain and hail and throws it down on the earth as a storm. Then He talks about how He feeds the starving baby ravens, and how He helps the deer and mountain goats when they’re in hard labor.
Yes… that is the mighty, sweet and compassionate God we serve.

  2. And… I loved what you said about the tractor… Yeah… if you really want to appreciate your man, go out there and try to do what he does every day for a little while. It’s not as easy as it looks. 😉

  3. Strength of character. He is willing to make tough decisions in obedience to God, and to preserve his testimony.

Emotional strength. He is there to calm my spastic feminine response when life becomes more than I can handle.

  4. My husband is strong in a lot of ways–physically, emotionally, and spiritually. He’s my rock when my emotions are crazy, and he strengthens my faith when I worry and doubt. He’s a big guy, too, and I love it when he wraps his arms tight around me. He makes me feel small (I’m 5’10”), safe, and protected, and I love that.

    This is beautiful, Natasha. 🙂
